The Hike Kidz Foundation is focused on reaching the local children in need. This includes children that are homeless, in transition from being homeless and the underprivileged local children. In addition, our goal to invite the children to contact resources to see what they qualify for, to help them. Our goal is to get what is needed to the children as quickly and as non-threatening as possible. Our goal is to provide what is needed in crisis but also to add to the quality of life and the enrichment opportunities that are available to them. Art is a powerful tool for healing, expression, distraction, processing and provides a feeling of belonging.
On Febuary 5th, 2025, we will begin the journey of art enrichment at the Stone Branch Center of the Arts. This event is to invite students and volunteers to fill totes together in the atmosphere of creativity and community. We are very excited to join Terre Jenkins, Joanna McCue-Martin (Special Services Department of WCPS) and Katie Priest who leads her Elements Students in a work based program. We are looking forward to establishing art programs that help with empowerment and transformation through expression to these children. Introducing the opportunity and collaborating to create safe and inspiring ways to process crisis.
We will make the totes full of items that the students and local children need and can use. Some items will be specific to art and age appropriate. The most important will be the resourceful information that may help them in precarious situations and the instructions on how to seek help.
The initial round of totes will be available through the Nourished Nest and the remaining totes at the Hike Kidz Foundation location. We are taking donations now on our website if you would like to contribute.
